WSOP QuALifier

Rumor has it that the ALternate has qualified for the WSOP Main Event, maybe he can confirm with the details here. If that's the case then 4th St wishes him well as always. I will be out there for something called the World Poker Tour Bellagio Cup III, but I should be able to sweat some of his action (esp. on Day 1) and bring you updates.

Al's Update

Indeed I did win a "package" to the WSOP last night. Thing is, this year a package consists of 12K and you're on your own in terms of buying into the tournament. So I'm just gonna hoard the cash and probably play in either a smaller WSOP event or play a Bellagio Cup Event and a satellite for that main event. Either way, it's the tits and thanks for the support...

Sandman has Hachem Flamooshed

If you haven't seen this week's WSOP coverage of Day 3 on ESPN then stop what you are doing and go watch it.

Our 2005 Player of the Year, Vaughn Sandman, goes head to head with the 2005 WSOP Champion, Joe Hachem. You'll see Vaughn make what Norm calls "a remarkable play" while looking oh so pretty in his 4th St shirt.

Congratulations to Vaughn Sandman for an amazing run, I know he kept me glued to the phone and internets. His run ended when his pocket 3s were outrun by AQo on the river. It just wasn't Vaughn's day today as it seemed he just couldn't get a hand to stand up. However, that takes nothing away from the unbelievable plays he made to put himself in position to be able to withstand such beats and still have a fighting chance.

Great job Vaughn! Next year it's a final table.

Back to 106k

Sandman's KK gets rivered by a diamond flush (K5 no less) so he's now back down to 106k.

Doubles Up to 192k

Sandman doubles up with AJ and he's now back in the tournament with 192k.

Sandman Stumbles But Is Still Standing

So it's been a long day already. After getting up near 460k, Sandman took a massive blow to his stack. Sandman was holding 66 and flopped a set. The turn brought a Q and the money got in the middle, unfortunately his opponent hit a two-outer on the turn with pocket Qs to take down the pot with set over set.

That hand dropped him all the way down to 115k and only a couple of hands later he was all in again with JJ. A player with KK moved in behind him and so did and AQ. AQ ended up winning and Sandman was then left with 25k.

He then was forced to move all-in and as he pushed his chips in the middle he ordered up a Jack Daniels. That seemed to help him as he tripled his way up to 100k. He is now on break with 75k and Jack.

Let's hope he can turn this thing around and triple up again.

488k - 16th Place

Haven't had any updates from the Sandman camp this morning but as the Cooler pointed out cardplayer is listing Sandman with 488k putting him in 16th place overall with 363 left in the field.

61st Place at the Start of Day 3

Day 3 has just begun. Below is the Sandman's table. He's coming into the day with 330,500 and in 61st place out of the 481 remaining.

Sandman Doubles His Stack on Day 3

Day 3 has ended and the field has been cut down to 500 players.

Vaughn had another amazing run on day 3 as he was able to double his stack by the end of the night. He started play with 163,000 and finished up at 330,500.

This was by far his most impressive showing as he was seated with the World Champion the entire day and was able to take control of the table. As the chip leader at his table for most, if not all of day 3, Sandman eventually put the Champ on mega tilt when the frustration of all of his moves ended with Hachem telling him he was out of his mind.

Table Breaks No More Hachem

Sandman's table breaks so he's not sitting next to Hachem anymore.

His stack is now 320k. He look like he is chipleader at the new table.
