"If you're going to live by the river, make friends with the crocodile." - Indian Proverb
"Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it." - Norman Maclean
After five weeks on the Tour, Vonnnn Sannnndmannnn finally made friends with the crocodile as everything merged into one and a river ran through his path to victory…
King Richard commanded the river early on in the game, prompting C-Mint to refer to him as the River King and exclaim, “King Richard, the tide is too high! The peasants are revolting! We want a Republic!” But as the night wore on, it soon became obvious that no one in the 4SPT could escape the clutches of that nasty river card.
The First Lady was a victim of the river when she dipped her toes in the water against the KCB’s A5 holding on to her 99. The flop came JQ5. She was feeling pretty safe when the turn brought the 6. But the KCB was able to stay afloat as the A fell on 5th street. Yet, the First Lady wasn’t done tempting the fates of the river gods. She boldly looked the crocodile in the face two more times, both when a King hit on 5th Street. First against King Richard and then again to bust out The Rookie and Six Flags. In that hand, Six Flags went All-In with Q4 and the Rookie decided to join him with QJ. The First Lady called with KJ. The flop put the Rookie ahead when it flipped 9AQ. He was even more in control as 4th Street made his two pair with the J. But when one of the remaining three Kings floated up in the river, giving the First Lady two pair Kings and Jacks, Six Flags and the Rookie were washed away downstream.
The Cooler felt the pain of the river as Von Sandman began his run to the top by going All-In with AK. The Cooler called with JJ. Flop 835. Turn 2. And just as it looked like Von Sandman’s night was over, he hit another club on the river to make his Ace-high flush. Feeling the pain of his first river loss, the Cooler called Slew’s All-In and had to feel like he was in good position as he held an AQ to Slew’s AJ. But not on this night. When the first four cards brought no help to either player, it was almost a given that the last card off would be a Jack. Sure enough, the river once again claimed another victim as it brought the J.
And it didn’t let up! In fact, the river just got crueler as the night progressed…
Play was down to the Final 5 with Boss Man, C-Mint, King Richard, Von Sandman, and Seattle Slew. The Mint decided that the time was right to move All-In after the flop of 2310 showed on the board. He was called by King Richard who flipped over 44. The Mint showed his J3. Although he was behind at that point with his pair of 3s, the turn brought the J putting him in a dominating position with two pair. But don’t forget – there was one card to go. With only two outs remaining, King Richard sucked out the 4 to send the Canadian Mint home in 5th place and end his string of second place finishes.
Down to 4. The Boss Man needed to make a move and so he went All-In with KQ only to be called by Von Sandman’s 88. The flop helped the Boss Man enormously as the Q fell along with the 3 and 4. The turn was the 9. It looked as if the Boss Man would double up, but the river spares no man. When the 8 was revealed, Von Sandman gained the chip lead and the Boss Man was out in 4th place.
The Final Hand
Left with 3 players, Von Sandman was first to act and threw in a raise of $2,000. Slew, sitting on the short stack, came back over the top with an All-In raise of $3,800. With a $5,800 bet staring him in the face, King Richard decided to go over the top of Slew. Perhaps trying to freeze Von Sandman out of the pot, he too went All-In with a raise of $400 making it $4,200 to Von. It didn’t work. Von made the call with JJ. Everyone flipped their cards; Slew showed K9 and King Richard held AJ. The first three cards off were 2Q8. The 9 was next. And when Slew and the King needed it most, the river ran dry. The 4 hit and for only the second time in Tour history, we had the finale end with two players going out in the same hand.
Congratulations to VonnnnSannnndmannnn on his first 4SPT title. That makes it two straight for the DirtBag Crew!

Jeff, unbelievable focus this week on the recap. How you pay that much attention to everyone else's game and still manage to play is beyond me. (Actually, come to think of it, it's been awhile sine you won :) Thanks Slim.
