Jay Coulbourne made quick work of the field of 20 this week, wrapping up the win in record time. Playing for his first time on the Tour, Jay wasted no time in accumulating chips as he crippled Pibb early with 4-of-a-kind 8s. He then took on Pibb’s trip Aces with his own Set of Aces, but ousted Pibb from the tournament when his kicker made him a full house on the river.
Canadian Mint was then moved into the seat vacated by Pibb, leading to THE hand of the night and possibly the gutsiest call ever seen on the 4SPT. Up until the river it wasn’t a very exciting hand, with little action between Jay and C-Mint. But when the river card hit, Charles pushed all-in for $1,125. Counting out his $1,400 in chips, Jay decided to put it all on the line and call. C-Mint looked devastated when he flipped over a stone-cold bluff of Queen-high. The table anxiously awaited seeing Jay’s monster hand but were all floored when he showed Ace high! He must’ve read last week’s recap before the match to know he could call the C-Mint with Ace high in that situation. It was an absolutely incredible play that allowed him to take a commanding chip lead and complete control of the rest of the tournament.
Never expecting to last very long (and why should he, since he went out first both other times he played on the Tour), Brent scheduled a red-eye flight to Arkansas for 1am, the time when most 4SPT games end. Amazing everyone, and himself, by making it to the Final Table, with each hand he won, he was pushing it closer and closer to missing his flight. Brent even agreed to take his chips out of play and take the 4th place winnings if he needed to leave.
But Jay was flexing his muscle and eliminating Final Table players left and right by hitting straights on the river, cracking my pocket Aces with pocket 9s, and picking up his own pocket Aces not once, but twice. By 11:45pm Brent found himself sitting in a heads-up showdown for first place against Jay who had approximately $16,000 of the $20,000 chips in play. With the clock ticking down, Brent was eventually forced to move All-In with his remaining $3,100 with 67 and Jay called with Q2 and the game ended when a Q hit the flop. Brent quickly collected his 2nd place winnings and his new nickname of “Flying High” and ran out the door.
If Jay can display this kind of dominance next week we could have our first back-to-back winner.
Highlights
- 5 of the final 8 players cracked the player standings by making their first appearance at the final table.
New Nicknames
- Brent "Flying High"
- Will "The Wraparound Straight"
My favorite was when Brent pushed all in with (2,3)os and schuck went ahead and called that with AA. Brent picked up two 3's on the 4ths street and Riva!

Ah yes that should've made the write-up... Just goes to show that if you pick up AA on the 4SPT you probably want to just fold it. Save yourself some heartache.
