Name: Alan Milesky
Nickname (how'd you get it): The Alternate. That's my moniker for taking Johnny's spot in the finals of the Shootout
Age: 26
Location: Westchester (right near LAX)
Favorite hand to play:
love mid-level suited one-gappers like 10-8d and 9-7d
Favorite pro player:
"The
Professor" Howard Lederer- He's got the full package. Smart
and calm with a deeply-imbedded competitive nature. A wicked
combination.
How did you learn about the 4SPT:
Johnny the Pick
When did you join the 4SPT:
I think sometime in April?
Best thing about winning the 4SPT:
It's
tough to get to know people (nevermind their poker style) when you
continue to bust out 12th-25th every week, so it was nice to go deep
and give people more of a sense of who I am.
Most
exciting/best hand you've had on the 4SPT:
My list
of memorable hands is short, but the pivotal point of The Shootout was
when Richie moved in on me with bottom pair of 3s when I was
slow-playing top pair. That hand chopped him down a bit and put me
about even with the pack.
4SPT player you don't want sitting next to you
(why):
I wouldn't normally admit it, but Johnny Pick
makes me uneasy when he has position in a pot with me. I like him to my right.
Where/how did you learn to play poker:
I
played a variety of games in high school with friends about once every
couple of weeks. We'd play everything from high-low to "follow the
queen" to seven-card stud. But the majority of our hands were
hold-em. So when the poker boom came I considered myself on one of the
ground floors of it. The game has gotten infinitely more difficult
as incredibly bright people join the fray every day.
Any
other interesting stories or whatever else you want people to know:
Of course kudos to Jeff, Jenn, and the gracious hosts every
week. I
have played in card rooms for almost three years now with successful
results. I've cashed at least once in a tournament at four different
card rooms in Los Angeles. I've lived off poker winnings for over a
year between '03 and '04. But the 4th Street players are a different
(read: better) breed. I expected to come in to these tournaments as
Johnny's ringer, and I could not have been more innacurate. You guys
are SMART. Very smart. Computer programmers, engineers,
mathematicians, etc. I would pit the cream of this crop against any
other, period. And I look forward to playing with you guys for as long
as you'll let me.
Well deserved Al....didn't know you brought so much previous experience to the table.

I want to wear the shootout medal for one week and all will be well. I can vouch for Al when he says he has some success under his belt. The money he supported himself with over that year was some of mine and Tremblay's. He owned us and our group for awhile. He was our mentor. But now it is good to know I make you uneasy Al. Well done on taking it down.

I'd like to see Al wear the medal before you do, Pick, he seemed to "forget it" last week...

Pick wearing that medal would be like Trent Green prancing around with Kurt Warner's MVP trophy. I wouldn't do it pick or the Honkeys will piss on you. Regards...Dino

I couldn't have come up with a better analogy myself, Dino.
